What Moved the Market This Week

Small-cap stocks led the week’s losses, and the S Fund felt it directly, giving back 1.32%. The I Fund also slipped, down a modest 0.14%, while the C Fund gained 0.50%, in line with the broader advance in large-cap U.S. stocks.

Large-cap technology stocks were an important source of strength during the week, helping offset weakness elsewhere in the market. Treasury yields moved higher late in the week as investors weighed persistent inflation concerns and the outlook for Federal Reserve policy, adding pressure to rate-sensitive stocks and contributing to Friday’s sharp decline in small caps.

The G and F Funds both posted modest gains, rising 0.09% and 0.13%, respectively. The G Fund continued its characteristically steady climb, while the F Fund recovered slightly after declining the previous week.

The Lifecycle Funds all finished in positive territory, with returns generally shrinking as target dates moved further out. Longer-dated L Funds hold larger allocations to stock funds, including the S and I Funds that finished lower for the week, while the more conservative L Funds benefited from their greater exposure to the G and F Funds.

Fund performance is based on TSP daily share prices. This is not financial advice.
