Federal Employee Union Seeks Injunction Against Trump’s Workforce Executive Orders

June 13, 2018 My Federal Retirement

The National Treasury Employees Union (NTEU) asked a federal judge Friday to immediately block provisions of the president’s executive orders rolling back the rights of federal employees while the union’s lawsuit against those portions of the orders is pending.

NTEU’s lawsuit challenges provisions that conflict with the Civil Service Reform Act in two of the three executive orders issued by the Trump administration on May 25.  NTEU asserts that multiple provisions of the orders are in direct conflict with existing laws covering official time, removal procedures, and the scope of the negotiated grievance procedure in collective bargaining agreements.

“Our union has 80 years of experience defending the men and women of the U.S. civil service and this motion shows we take seriously our role in making sure that the frontline employees all over the country are treated with the dignity and respect they deserve,” Reardon said.   “Federal employees should not lose their lawful rights granted by Congress at the president’s misguided stroke of a pen. No harm can come from leaving the current collective bargaining system in place while the legal challenges against the orders proceed.”
