Retirement Relocation Tools: Taxes, Community Comparisons and More

March 15, 2018 My Federal Retirement

Are you considering relocation to a new community when you retire?

My Federal Retirement has provided several useful websites that will help you examine the “best fit” location for your desired retirement lifestyle.

Retirement Living Information Center – Taxes By State
http://www.retirementliving.com/RLtaxes.html
This site allows you to compare the overall tax burden in each state (including taxes on retirement income, property taxes, senior exemptions and sales taxes).

Relocation Essentials
http://www.relocationessentials.com/
This site’s Community Explorer will assist you with finding or narrowing down the neighborhood community that matches what you want.  It allows you to search based on criteria you establish. Once you have retrieved your results, you can compare your choices side-by-side or to your current community. The data includes cost of living, crime reports, and many others.  You can even preview (where applicable) available real estate listings for selected communities.

Sperling’s BestPlaces
http://www.bestplaces.net
Here you can compare characteristics on more than 3,000 locations, including people, economy, housing, health, crime, climate, education, transportation, cost of living, religion and voting.

American Fact Finder
http://www.factfinder.census.gov/home/saff/main.html?_lang=en
Published by the U.S. Census Bureau, the American FactFinder provides a lot of information about cities and towns across the country including population, housing, economic and geographic data.

You’ll find interesting facts about communities on this site.  Epodunk provides in-depth information about more than 46,000 communities around the country, from Manhattan to Los Angeles, Pottstown to Podunk. The listings include geocoded information about thousands of parks, museums, historic sites, colleges, schools and other places across America. You’ll also find journals (user blogs) where you can chat with folks from individual communities.
