As NSPS Ends, Transition Resources Available for DoD Employees
February 18, 2010

Due to the elimination of the National Security Personnel System (NSPS)

last fall, approximately 200,000 federal employees will be transitioning into

the General Schedule pay system by Jan. 1, 2012.

The Department of Defense (DoD) has issued a web-based training program for

those affected.  "GS 101", as it's called, covers a variety of concerns,

including:

  • GS classification and and salary issues

  • information about changing positions within the GS system

  • details on performance management

  • information on career development

While NSPS will be eliminated in 2012, until it ends, those still in the

program may benefit from guidance offered by federal career expert,

Kathryn Troutman.  "Whether or not this is your first or last NSPS

self-assessment, we have a few guides available that will make your NSPS

self-assessment and job objective writing task easy to understand, and

formatting ideas to make your best work stand out," stated Troutman.
