2010 Federal Pay Raise : Obama Calls Again for 2 Percent Increase
UPDATE: August 31, 2009
UDPATE: (August 31, 2009) -- President Obama issued a letter today to House Speaker
Nancy Pelosi stating he wants to implement a 2.0 percent 2010 federal pay raise for civilian employees.
It's unclear what the final 2010 federal employee pay increase will be. Congress could ultimately override the president's request. The process for determining the annual federal pay raise is lengthy. The actual 2010 federal employee pay charts / tables -- with their locality adjustments for the General Schedule (GS) -- won't likely be issued until December 2009

Giving reasons for the decision, Obama's letter stated: "with unemployment at 9.5
percent in June to cite just one economic indicator, few would disagree that our
country is facing serious economic conditions affecting the general welfare" and
"the growth in federal requirements is straining the federal budget."
Obama first asked for the 2.0 percent pay raise in the White House's 2010 federal budget proposal in February.
Last month, the House passed a 2 percent raise for civilian federal employees in 2010. The Senate has yet to vote, but has been pushing a 2.9 percent increase.
